PENDING assemblywoman Violet Yong is suing Sarawak Chief Minister’s political secretary Tan Kai and Sin Chew daily for defamation over a road project issue.

Yong said her lawyers have filed a civil suit against Tan Kai and Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd for libel with regard to the article published on Oct 16 this year.

“The writ and statement of claim have been duly served on both the defendants on Nov 19.

“I believe the statements by Tan Kai against me were defamatory and is in the way of my office and occupation,” she said in a statement.

On Oct 16, Yong had given a statement to the police after Tan lodged a police report, alleging she had made a defamatory and baseless accusation on the RM3.3 million road project in Batu Kawa.

Yong, however, insisted that her postings in her social media account were all true as she had gone to the ground and spoken to the residents in the affected area.

She also said her postings were merely showing a comparison of the engineering specifications of road projects between the GPS government and the former PH government.
