THE SUPP has been reminded that it is working with Umno and also Pas in the Perikatan Nasional government.
DAP’s Michael Kong said that with the party and GPS working with the two parties, he wondered why is the SUPP instead asking DAP to state its stand on Umno.
Referring to SUPP’s Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang query that was reported in the media, Kong asked the motive for such a hypothetical question from the party and GPS.
“Furthermore, as far as Umno is concerned, SUPP together with its GPS coalition partners have been together with Umno for over 58 years.
“Lo seems to have conveniently forgotten that SUPP has been serving the Umno master since the formation of Barisan Nasional in 1973.”
He said even when Barisan Nasional fell in 2018, the GPS leaders were still taking their cue from Umno until Bersatu’s Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became the Prime Minister, in whose cabinet the GPS leaders have ministerial posts.
“Instead of throwing such questions to DAP, Lo should be asking his SUPP and GPS leaders on why they are now still cooperating with Umno and Pas under the present PN government.”
Kong, who is also Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen’s special assistant, said Pas under the present leadership of Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, is known for its goal towards the Islamisation of Malaysia.
Despite their stance, he said SUPP is more than happy to be partners with them.
“Previously, GPS and SUPP were extremely vocal against Pas and even issued statements against Hadi Awang. Now with GPS help, Pas is stronger and part of the Federal government.”
He said GPS was not only supporting parties such as Pas and Umno, but is also supporting an inefficient prime minister who had failed to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Therefore, the real question that everyone should be asking is ‘Why is SUPP supporting the PN government that had failed miserably in handling the Covid-19 pandemic’?” he asked.
