Traffic flow arrangement a nuisance to the public, says DAP

By John Isaac

THE DAP in October last year, raised the issue of the new proposed traffic flow arrangement for the Ee Ann City Commercial Centre.

The unilateral decision of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to close the exit point leading to Jalan Penrissen, caused a lot of inconvenience to shopowners, residents and customers of the Ee Ann City Commercial Centre.

According to Michael Kong, this was because the closure of the exit point forced everyone to exit at the Ee Ann City Commercial Centre.

On Oct 26, MPP chairman, Lo Khere Chiang announced that the feeder road next to Ee Ann City Commercial Centre would be widened into a two-lane carriageway to ease the traffic flow.

“I note that it has been close to four months since the announcement by Lo regarding the proposed widening of the said road.

“However, following feedback from shop owners, residents and customers as well as our site inspection, we note there is no commencement of any kind of road widening work at the said site.

“Our checks with local contractors supervising the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway along Jalan Penrissen were also futile as none of them seem to be aware of any plans for the said road widening,” said Michael, who is a special assistant to Sarawak DAP chief, Chong Chieng Jen.

Michael said he has since written to MPP to follow up on Lo’s announcement.
