POLICE are tracking down a male suspect who dropped off a food package containing containing what authorities believe to be syabu, at a designated Covid-19 quarantine hotel in Jalan Padungan, Kuching yesterday.

The suspect dropped off the package around 12.30pm yesterday with a policeman on duty at the hotel and said it was for one of the hotel’s occupants, without specifying who or in which room the intended recipient stayed in. The suspect left immediately after.

The policeman on duty had lodged a report on the incident, Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said, Borneo Post reported.

“The complainant was with two People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members when the suspect appeared and told them that the food package was for one of the hotel’s occupants,” said Awang Din.

The three personnel then started to inspect the food package and discovered the two packets of drugs inside.

“This case is currently being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” said Awang Din.
