Stop holding the people ransom, DAP tells GPS

By John Isaac

THE SARAWAK government has been told not to hold the people ransom by threatening them that assistance would be stopped if they rejected or did not support GPS.

“DAP Serian has received few cases where some community leaders do not want to sign any application forms when they know it is from the opposition’s office.

“For example, some Ketua Kampung refused to sign the welfare form just because they got it from the DAP, while some were forced to hang the GPS flag just to make sure their rooftop is changed,” said Brolin Nicholsion, the DAP Serian Chairman

He said this was a misconceived way to get the support from the grassroots to vote for GPS.

“I hope GPS can lead by example and let Sarawak be the example of a democratic state in Malaysia.

“As provided by our constitution, one has the freedom to choose who they want as their representative and vote for any political party whether it’s for the parliament or state assembly,” he said.

As the government of the day, Brolin said its GPS’s duty to help those in need and not force them to choose or support any party, and it is their decision to choose whoever they want to be their leader.

“I believe Sarawakians are smart voters, and are matured enough to make their own decision,” he added.
