Stampin and Bandar Kuching DAP to give out more than 8,000 food aid packages under Pemulih

By S. Harrish

THE Bandar Kuching and Stampin parliamentary service centres will be starting their food aid distribution using their RM300,000 allocation from the Federal Government’s PEMULIH programme.

The food aid will cover a total of 8,572 households in the two constituencies.

Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen said each food aid package would cost RM70, translating to 4,286 packages for each constituency.

“It is both our commitment to be transparent and accountable with every sen that is allocated for such purpose including the whole process of decision making, procurement and distribution.”

The Sarawak DAP chief said in a statement that they have been receiving quotations from different local supermarkets and local suppliers and they will choose the best value products for the aid packages.

Based on the guidelines given by the government as well as feedback from families, Chong said each pack will contain 10 items:

(1) 10kg bag of rice

(2) 2 cans of sardines (425g)

(3) 2 packets of Lee Fah Mee 5 pack set

(4) Sugar 1 kg

(5) Cream crackers 250g

(6) Corn kernel 425g

(7) Wheat flour 850g

(8) Bee Hoon 300g

(9) Milo pack 1kg

(10) Creamer 500g

He said the list is given to maintain consistency and so that each recipient can check the items received.

“We will also be purchasing from different sources who provide similar quotation to spread out the allocation to help the local industry and boost the local economy.”

He said all additional logistical cost or miscellaneous cost incurred will be covered by them using their own resources, so as to ensure the constituents receive the best value from the allocations.

“We will also provide regular updates until every packet purchased is fully delivered to our constituents.

“Details of all recipients will also be recorded and submitted to the ministry involved for necessary checks and audits.

“Transparency and accountability are important to us as we recognise that this is not our money, nor the government’s money, but the people’s money.”
