BAWANG Assan assemblyman has provided personal contribution to more than 2,000 families in villages who are in a dire need of food aid and other essential items.
Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said although the state government is delivering essential food items to the needy households, quite a number of them are still waiting for the delivery to be done.
He said it was learnt that the Sibu Resident’s Office had started gathering names for the food aid, but it is expected to take some time for the process.
“It has been more than two weeks since the Movement Control Order (MCO). So, I need to do something to address the issue,” he said.
Wong, who is also Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president said food items had been distributed to 2,600 households from 103 longhouses and villages in the constituency.
He will continue to deliver the aid to another 2,000 families in Empawah, Pradom, Sg Sadit, Engilo and Sg Bidut.
After resigning from the state cabinet, the former finance minister said he has no access to the various government funds, hence, he is doing it with his own means.
“This (my personal contribution) should complement the food aid from the state disaster management committee. Whatever they receive from the government would be extra for them,” he said.
