THE sub-district of Siburan will be elevated to a full district pending a study on the proposal by the State Secretary’s Office, revealed Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“But before this can happen, there are multiple factors we have to look at including population,” he told a press conference in Serian as reported by the New Sarawak Tribune.

Abang Johari said over 90 percent of the areas in Serian are enjoying clean water and electricity.

“More areas will be connected to the water and electricity supplies after the road project here is implemented,” he said.

On security, the chief minister said a border post would be built in Tebedu. He added that the state government would work together with the Indonesian government in opening a trade office in Pontianak, Indonesia.

“This will allow us to have a border trade collaboration with Kalimantan and we have agreed to cut one hill in Tebedu which will facilitate the trade between Sarawak and Kalimantan.

“The details of this will be further discussed between Sarawak and the Indonesian government,” he said.

Commenting on the implementation of projects in Serian, Abang Johari said a committee would be monitoring the progress of the projects.

“We had meeting to monitor the projects which was attended by cabinet ministers and senior government officials.

“Everything is in order and I hope that everything can be implemented as planned,” he said.
