SIBU is now a Covid-19 “yellow” zone following the discovery of a locally transmitted case in the district today. This brings to 717 the number of positive cases in Sarawak.
The asymptomatic patient, a local, found out he was Covid-19 positive after a screening prior to starting new job in Kuching, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement.
Prior to arriving in Samarahan on Oct 1, he was working in a shipyard in Sibu and did not have an overseas travel history nor had visited Covid-19 high-risk areas.
Despite being tested in Samarahan, the case is classified under Sibu based on the patient’s travel history, the SDMC added.
Besides Sibu, the other “yellow” zones are Kuching and Lawas. The other 37 districts are all “green”.
The SDMC also said that a team from the Miri Health Department had been dispatched to Pa’ Dalih, Bario yesterday to conduct screening and preventive measures there. This follows the discovery of a positive case in Selangor by a patient who had previously travelled to Pa’ Dalih.
All 117 residents there, including four from the immediate family members of the patient, had been tested. Disinfection was also carried out in the patient’s house.
In total 135 close contact of the patient and their families were screen, and all samples were still awaiting test results.
