Shift your support to Pakatan Harapan, PKR tells GPS

By John Isaac

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak has urged Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to shift its support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) to lead the country, in view of the political uncertainty unfolding in West Malaysia.

“GPS should withdraw its support for the failed Perikatan Nasional (PN) federal government, or Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin immediately without waiting to see the next episodes.

“If GPS is smart, this is certainly a golden opportunity to bring Sarawak to new heights,” said PKR Sarawak Information chief Abun Sui Anyit in a statement reported by New Sarawak Tribune.

He noted that GPS has a strong bloc with bargaining power.

“Why not have GPS’ support, which has been wasted by the failed PN government, be shifted to support PH to lead the country and perhaps offer themselves for the post of Deputy Prime Minister?” he said, adding that this was not impossible in politics.

His statement was in reference to the recent political developments in Malaya, including United Malays National Organisation (Umno) withdrawing its support for the PN government.

With regard to the move by Umno, he said based on the number of Umno MPs – 38, Muhyiddin no longer has majority support in Parliament.

“Pursuant to Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution, the Prime Minister shall resign or seek the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat.

“However, with the Covid-19 pandemic still plaguing the country, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will most likely not allow the dissolution of Parliament to make way for the country to hold a snap general election,” he added.
