SARAWAKIANS can now register for the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine opt-in programme that was initially implemented only in the Klang Valley.
The government has now extended it to Sarawak, Johor and Penang, with the second round of slot-booking to be open from May 23 to 26.
According to the NST, Coordinating Minister for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Khairy Jamaluddin however said priority would be given to senior citizens in an effort to expedite the second phase of the programme.
“For the second round, those aged 60 and above will be given early access (to book for slots) to ensure we are able to provide protection (against the infection) for the high-risk group as the country faces a surge in Covid-19 cases.
“The registration for senior citizens will open on May 23 through the website http://vaksincovid.gov.my and community outreach at the district heath office level,” said Khairy today.
He added that the programme would be extended to the three red states due to the high number of Covid-19 cases, which was in line with the government’s effort for pandemic control, which would see a combination of NIP phases 2 and 4.
He said exemptions were given to those who were in the waiting list from the first drive as they would also get vaccine appointments this round.
“If there are still vacancies for the slots after May 26, we will open the slots for the public aged below 60.”
He said there were currently some 25,000 people in the AstraZeneca opt-in programme’s waiting list.
