A MALE teacher in Selangor joked about rape during a lesson on sexual harassments, a student claimed in a series of videos that have gone viral on social media.

Among other, the the physical education and health teacher allegedly said that “if you want to rape someone, do not rape those below 18 years of age, rape those above 18.”

The remark drew laughter among male students in class but the females were quiet, the student from a school in the Kuala Selangor district added.

The teacher had also allegedly said that boys who were raped often did not get reported because the victims had “enjoyed” it.

Recounting her experience, the student who posted the videos on her Twitter account said the teacher had started by talking about sexual harassment, how students could take care of themselves and their body rights before the lesson became “weirder and more vulgar”.

The teacher also allegedly said that “girls should scream” and if nothing else could be done, the victims should just “redha” (accept their fate).

The student also shared a screenshot of her WhatsApp conversation with her school counsellor on the matter. The counsellor apologised on behalf of the errant teacher who may not realise the implication of his comments to students.

Reacting to the video on Twitter, former Education Minister Maszlee Malik urged the principal of the school to investigate the student’s claim.

“Rape is not a joke. Teachers should focus on safety, not the other way around,” he said.
