Sarawak’s Covid-19 recovery rate lowest in the country

THE recovery rate for Covid-19 patients in Sarawak is the lowest in the country, at 17.6 per cent of the total 403 cases reported in the state as of Saturday (Apr 18).

This is followed by Kuala Lumpur at 26.2 per cent, although the number of positive cases in the federal territory is more than double that of Sarawak’s at 985, statistics from the Health Ministry shows.

Sarawak has 332 active cases, or patients who have tested positive for Covid-19 but have yet to be discharged from hospitals.

Perak has the highest recovery rate at 90.1 per cent. Of the state’s 252 confirmed cases, only 25 patients are still being treated.

The state with the second highest recovery rate is Kelantan at 89.7 per cent followed by Kedah (88.3 per cent).

The Kuching church cluster is one of biggest in the country with over 130 cases and two deaths.

Several prominent people in Sarawak have also contracted the virus, including Members of Parliament Andrew Wong Ling Biu from Sarikei, Rabiah Wang from Kota Samarahan and Dr Kelvin Yii from Bandar Kuching.

Sarawakian national hammer thrower Jackie Wong Siew Cher and state police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail have also tested positive.
