SARAWAK is shutting down most of its border posts with neighbours Brunei, Kalimantan and Sabah with immediate effect to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg said only the customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) posts between Sarawak and Brunei at Sg Tujuh, Tedungan, Pandaruan and Mengkalap will remain open between 6am and 8pm, The Malaysian Insight reported.

Also exempted are all CIQs between Sarawak and Kalimantan – Tebedu, Biawak and Lubok Antu.

Their opening hours are, however, between 9am and 3 pm.

Abang Johari said keeping the CIQs open is in line with the opening hours as agreed by Brunei and Indonesia.

He added the severity and the seriousness of the Covid-19 problem was not to be underestimated.

He explained that the movement control order (MCO) was an exercise to flatten the infection curve of Covid-19 which will burden the community, the state and the country’s resources, and affect the health and safety of every individual, if not checked.

Abang Johari also appealed to the public once more to abide strictly to the MCO.
