THE Sarawak government today announced an RM800 million seventh package of Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 7.0) to help businesses affected by the recent MCO 3.0.

Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Abang Openg said the state government was aware that the businesses, especially the small and medium enterprises, needed financial aid to cover their operational costs, which includes rentals and wages.

He said the state government would also roll out three measures – financial assistance, relaxation of government procurement policy and renewal of foreign workers’ employment permits.

He said a special one-off payment of RM10,000 would be given to businesses in Sarawak that were registered with Socso as of Dec 31, 2020.

This is expected to benefit about 40,000 businesses and will cost the government more than RM400 million.

It will be given in two payments – RM5,000 in September and the balance in December.

Speaking at the launch today, Abang Johari said the government’s procurement policy would also be relaxed to support businesses in the construction sector and the various measures will cost about RM400 million.

He said the work permits of foreign workers in all sectors will also be renewed until Dec 31, 2022.
