THE Health Ministry recorded 9,020 new Covid-19 infections today, a new daily high for the fifth consecutive day. A record 98 deaths were also reported today, pushing the death toll nationwide to 2,650.
Selangor continued to top the new cases with 2,836 new cases followed by Kelantan at 907 and Negri Sembilan (898). Sarawak, which enters the first day of MCO today, saw 726 new cases, according to statistics released by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Today’s soaring numbers came following an announcement by the Prime Minister’s Office last night of a full lockdown nationwide for 14 days starting June 1.
In Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said of the 726 new cases, 159 were from Kuching, followed by Kapit (73), Sibu (72), Miri (66), Subis (60), Bintulu (49), Samarahan (43), Pakan (28), Meradong (27), Selangau (16), Asajaya (16), Sarikei (15), Tanjung Manis (13), Beluru (13), Mukah (12) and Serian.
The state now has 46,162 cumulative Covid-19 positive cases.
There were also four new deaths reported in Sarawak, with the toll now at 280.
