Rape & sexual harassment: Stop modelling and do something, DAP tells Rina Harun

By John Isaac

IT is saddening to see some rotten apples within the police force giving the entire department a bad name.

While most of their peers are busy working round the clock to ensure strict compliance with the SOPs, some policemen have the time to sexually harass women during roadblocks.

“Even locally in Miri, the police force was caught sleeping on their job and this caused a 16-year-old minor to be raped by a fellow detainee in the police station.

“What upsets the people more is that our Minister for Women, Family and Community, Rina Harun has gone silent on this issue,” said Michael Kong, the special assistant to Sarawak DAP chief, Chong Chieng Jen.

Instead of meeting her colleague Hamzah Zainudin, Minister of Home Affairs, to get to the bottom of the issues, she is only seen on social media modelling in her office.

Rina Harun

“Rina Harun had on earlier occasion advised women to speak to the husband in a Doraemon-like voice to appease the spouse, while her deputy, Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, had also previously complained that the clothing of female flight attendants is too offensive.

“GPS as a component party of PN is also equally guilty for the way the matter is handled,” said Michael.

While SUPP’s Wilfred Yap was previously seen giving flowers on International Women’s Day to promote public awareness that women’s rights are fundamental human rights enshrined by the United Nations, we have yet to hear any of the GPS members of parliament calling on their colleagues to take strict action.

Even Senior Minister, Fadillah Yusuf is nowhere to be seen recently.

The unelected PN government has previously been condemned by the public for their total inability to help the people during this Covid-19 pandemic.

“However for them to also be a serial bystander who only watches the world go by is unacceptable.

“Malaysia deserves better and if GPS and their colleagues cannot do the job, they better just resign … that is the least they can do for the people,” he stressed.
