Pregnant woman and unborn child die due to Covid-19 in Sarawak

A PREGNANT mother who was among the six fatalities reported in Sarawak yesterday was in her second trimester and the foetus also did not survive.

State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing when contacted said the 35-year-old woman was five-months pregnant when tested positive.

She had gone to a government health clinic for an antenatal check-up on April 22. However, she was found to be suffering from breathing difficulties while at the clinic.

He said she had been suffering from fever, cough and cold for several days before she came to the clinic.

A swab test was carried and the result came back positive, and she was referred to Kapit Hospital for further treatment and monitoring.

Dr Chin said her health condition deteriorated and she succumbed to the virus on Apr 23.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s report the victim was also obese.
