A RETIRED couple from Penang who won RM1 million from a lottery ticket waited for 103 days to collect the winnings due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).

During that period, the husband checked on the ticket everyday to make sure it was safe while praying for the travel restrictions to be lifted soon, said lottery operator Pan Malaysian Sweeps Sdn Bhd.

The couple had bought a Pan Malaysian Sweeps’ Big Sweep Super 7 Draw just before the MCO was enforced on March 18 while the draw results were announced in the midst of the travel restrictions period, Malay Mail reported.

They collected the winnings on June 26, when numbers forecast operators were allowed to resume businesses.

“When Big Sweep resumed operations on 26 June, the couple made their way to Big Sweep headquarters to claim their winnings.

“[The husband] shared that he usually buys tickets from the [disabled] sellers. His wife, a Big Sweep fan for decades, would buy three tickets every draw.

“Upon receiving the winning cheque, the lucky couple smiled with relief and said that they are glad that the long wait is over,” the company said in a statement.
