MORE than 95% of today’s Covid-19 cases are from Category 1 and 2, said health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said 6,504 (51.9%) cases were from Category 1 while 5,848 cases (46.6%) were from Category 2.

Category 1 are asymptomatic cases, Category 2 are those with mild symptoms, Category 3 (86 cases) are those with pneumonia, Category 4 (49 cases) are those with pneumonia and requiring oxygen therapy and Category 5 cases (54 cases) are those critical and require ventilators.

Dr Noor Hisham said this showed that vaccinations were the best way to tackle the worsening Covid-19 situation in Malaysia.

He also said a total of 1,497,578 Covid-19 tests were conducted in the past two weeks, with 141,523 tested yesterday.

Selangor conducted 52,889 tests while Kuala Lumpur conducted 18,369.

He added that there was still capacity for more tests, with private labs roped in.
