SARAWAK recorded one Covid-19 fatality and 178 new positive cases today, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update statement.
SDMC said the 90th death involved a 61-year-old local male who was admitted to Sibu Hospital as he exhibited symptoms such as flu, cough and respiratory complications.
“The rT-PCR test was conducted on Feb 22 and he was found positive on Feb 23. It is found that his health was deteriorating, and he was declared dead on March 14.
“He had comorbidities such as diabetes and nasopharynx cancer,” the committee said.
Meanwhile, the daily Covid-19 numbers in the country remain at four digits, with 1,354 new infections as of noon today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total, 1,340 were local infections while 14 were imported cases.
Nearly 78 per cent of the local infections involved Malaysians.
Selangor recorded the highest number of new cases at 577, followed by Sarawak (178), Penang (154) and Johor (121).
This brings the cumulative number of cases to 323,763 with 16,279 active cases.
The number of daily recoveries today was 1,782 bringing the total number of patients who have recovered from the novel coronavirus to 306,274 or 94.6 per cent.
Four more deaths were recorded nationwide, increasing the death toll to 1,210 people.
