PUBLIC who want to renew their car road tax are told to go to the Kuching General Post Office or the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in town.
Julian Tan, the special assistant to Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said most of the post office branches in Kuching were facing shortage of physical road tax discs. However, road tax renewal for motorcycles are not affected.
“We received complaints from the public that they are unable to renew their car road tax at some post office branches as they ran out of stock of the road tax stickers. So, we have gone to the ground,” he said in a statement.
“UTC officers told us that they still have sufficient stock, several thousands.”
“We also went to the Kenyalang Park post office and we were informed that over 2,000 pieces of car road tax discs were issued in the last two weeks.”
According to the officer, the branch experiences such an unusual high amount of traffic due to its strategic location and ease of parking. The office even went the extra mile to scout out a few hundreds more which eventually lasted until (yesterday) morning, Tan said.
