New Covid-19 cases shoot up to 561, two new deaths reported

THE Health Ministry today reported 561 new Covid-19 cases, the second highest new daily infections ever, pushing the national tally to 15,657 cases.

Two deaths were also reported, both in Sabah involving two local men, 67 and 63. This brings the total fatalities to 157, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

Of the 561 new cases, eight were imported while the remaining were mostly from Sabah (488 cases), Selangor (26), Kedah (16), Kuala Lumpur (15), Labuan (five), Johor, Malacca and Terengganu with three each while Perak and Penang reported one case each.

A total of 133 recoveries were reported today, bringing the total number of those discharged to 10,913, or a recovery rate of 69.7 per cent.

The total active cases is now 4,587 with 90 of them are in intensive care units, of whom 29 require respiratory assistance.

On Oct 6, the country recorded 691 new cases, the highest ever.
