New Covid-19 cases shoot up to 182 nationwide; zero from Sarawak

THE Health Ministry reported 192 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 167 were from the Benteng LD cluster in Sabah. This is the highest number of new cases reported in a day since the Recovery Movement Control Order started and brings the national tally to 9,810.

No new cases were reported in Sarawak.

The Sungai and Telaga clusters in Kedah also reported 14 new cases, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

The Benteng LD cluster originated from a lockup in Lahad Datu. Of the 167 new cases there, there were 76 Malaysians, comprising 70 detainees and six civilians who tested positive from contact tracing. The remaining 91 cases comprise 61 Filipinos and 30 Indonesians.

There is only one import case today.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that no new deaths were reported, with the total remaining at 128 cases. Currently, nine patients are receiving treatment in intensive care units, with five of them needing respiratory support.

Fourteen patients were discharged today, with the cumulative at 9,181 or a recovery rate of 93.6 per cent.
