THE new Cabinet has been described as old wine in old bottle with only a new bottle cap.
Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said the Cabinet lineup was a big disappointment and quipped that it was not even old wine in a new bottle.
“Ten days ago, when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin resigned, Malaysians were hoping for a new government to helm the nation, for the simple reason that his cabinet had failed terribly in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic.”
He said that not only Malaysia became the only country to be put under the Emergency Order but 6 months later, cases were rising with more deaths daily.
“Moreover, our country’s economy is going south, with many existing foreign investors threatening to leave the country,” he said in a statement today.
However as things turned out, Pakatan Harapan did not succeed in replacing the Perikatan Nasional government, having commanded only 105 out of the 220 MPs in Parliament.
Chong said the crucial number for the PN government finally came from Sarawak’s GPS with its 18 MPs throwing their full support for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob unconditionally.
“That was the first big disappointment. The second big disappointment is the so-called new cabinet, where 90% of the same personalities in the previous incompetent and failed Cabinet were reappointed as ministers and deputy ministers.”
The Kota Sentosa assemblyman said that though it was disappointing that there was no change from PN to PH government, he hoped that there would at least be new ministers appointed from the PN block to replace those incompetent and almost invisible ones.
“Yet, even that hope was dashed when Ismail Sabri made his announcement this morning.”
However, Chong said that for the time being, the opposition will continue to act responsibly to help the nation until Parliament is dissolved and the people have a chance to elect a new government.
