NATIONAL hammer throw athlete Jackie Wong has now tested negative for the Covid-19 virus and is recovering.

However the Sarikei athlete, who tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago, is still in Sibu Hospital while waiting for another test and will only be discharged if that test too comes up negative.

“I am in good health. My latest sample is negative,” he told Utusan Borneo when contacted.

Jackie is reportedly the first Malaysian athlete who got infected with Covid-19.

He is suspected to have contracted the virus while visiting his father, Sarikei MP Andrew Wong, who has also tested positive for Covid-19.

The 28-year-old athlete has broken the national record 17 times. The latest was in last August during the Malaysian Closed Athletics Championships.

His throw of 68.22m at the National Sports Complex Training Track here shattered his previous record of 67.31m, set at the South Korea Championships in June 2019.
