IN yet another blow for Bersatu, its two allies in the fragile Perikatan Nasional government, Umno and Pas, have decided to formally register the Muafakat Nasional coalition without it.
In a statement issued by MN today, the two parties said their leadership have agreed to register MN officially with the Registrar of Societies.
The statement made no mention of Bersatu.
“The Muafakat Nasional leadership have agreed in consensus to give our commitment to strengthen unity and cooperation between the parties in preparation for the upcoming GE15.
“The leadership of both parties have agreed to register Muafakat Nasional officially with the Registrar of Societies,’’ said the statement.
It was signed by Umno’s Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Pas’ Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, as MN’s secretary-general I and II respectively.
The statement also said that last night’s scheduled MN meeting was cancelled due to the conditional movement control order in the Klang Valley.
MN had previously sent an official invitation to Bersatu to join the coalition, which was later accepted by the party led by Prime Minister and party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
However, relations between the parties have become strained after the Sabah elections due to the Chief Minister position.
Last week, Umno said it was reconsidering its support for the PN government, while some Umno leaders said the party should be given the deputy prime minister position and other key ministries.
The development comes as PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he now commands the majority support of MPs.
