MEMBERS of Parliament have until 4pm tomorrow to submit declaration letters to nominate a name among members of the Dewan Rakyat to be the next prime minister.
In a letter to MPs by the Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun dated today (Aug 17) sighted by the New Straits Times, it was stated that the letters have to be certified as true.
According to Azhar, the letters have to be submitted through fax, email or WhatsApp messaging application and addressed to the private secretary to the Agong Datuk Nazim Mohd Alim.
Azhar said hand-delivered or late submissions would not be entertained, while reminding MPs to maintain secrecy over the contents of their letters.
“Under Article 43(2)(a), the Agong has to appoint a prime minister who in his judgment likely to command the confidence of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
“As instructed by decree from His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, I hereby give notice to you to submit a letter stating clearly one MP whom you support to be the ninth prime minister,” Azhar wrote.
Yesterday, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin handed his resignation as prime minister to the king along with his cabinet members.
