FOREIGNERS made up the bulk of the 67 new Covid-19 cases that were reported over the past 24 hours.

Health Department director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the 67 new cases, 49 were foreign nationals.

Of the new cases, 45 of them were reported in Negeri Sembilan while Sarawak recorded only one case.

The total number of people infected with Covid-19 in the country now stands at 6,656.

There were no new deaths and the death toll remains at 108.

He said 18 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with six cases needing respirators.

A total of 1,523 people are still being treated in hospitals.

With today’s recoveries, the total number of people who have recovered and been discharged stands at 5,025.

Dr Noor Hisham said the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Jalan Othman market in Petaling Jaya was ordered after 27 cases were detected at the locality.

“The EMCO involves three zones and will take effect from May 10 to May 23.”

He said a total of 24,125 foreigners in the country have been screened, with 4.7% testing positive.

He said 447 are still being treated, three of them in ICU. Some 641 have recovered so far, with four deaths.

“Screening and testing is still ongoing, especially in EMCO areas. Everyone will be screened, regardless of whether they are citizens or foreign nationals, in such places.”
