POLICE today carted off several tables and chairs placed along Old Folks Street in Miri after elderly men were spotted hanging out there despite the Movement Control Order (MCO).

According to Borneo Post, a team led by Miri district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah was patrolling around the city on the third day of MCO at around 10am when they spotted the group. Shops along the street were closed.

Eight senior citizens were also brought to the Miri Central police station.

“This is not an arrest but an advice to them. We wanted to make sure they understand the current situation. We contacted their families and reminded them to stay at home,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lim also denied the police were handing out fines to public who did not wear a face mask. “It is a fake news,” he said.
