MIRI police have detained a 23-year-old man for the rape of a 15-year-old girl which allegedly took place in February.

Miri district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the suspect was held at 12.20am in his home at Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram on Sunday, New Sarawak Tribune reported.

The 15-year-old victim had just gotten to know the suspect before the incident happened.

In March, the victim found out that she was pregnant through a pregnancy test.

“The victim later went to a clinic for further inspection and the doctor confirmed her situation.

“The suspect was told of the victim’s pregnancy, but he did not want to take any responsibility for the four-month-old fetus,” he said in a statement.

The victim then lodged a police report on the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
