THE Sarawak Health Department has refuted rumours that a boy who died in Miri Hospital today had suffered from Covid-19. The victim had in fact died from severe Influenza A with multiple organs failure.

State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing said the boy, 11, was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit on March 8 as he had been suffering from fever, cough. vomiting and shortness of breath since three days earlier.
“The victim did not have any history of overseas travel or came into contact with anyone who had contracted Covid-19,” Dr Chin added.
Two tests were conducted on March 9 and March 10 to ascertain if the victim had contracted Covid-19 and both results came back negative, he added.  The victim passed away at 5.45am today.
Dr Chin also reminded the public not to share unverified news and to refer to official channels such as the Health Ministry’s website at www.moh.gov.my.
