THE Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has apologised for putting up an advisory which had earned widespread ridicule for putting down women earlier.
Two controversial posters shared on the Facebook page of the Women’s Development Department under the Ministry have also been removed.
“We take note of the public response to the tips we shared on what women can do during the Movement Control Order (MCO). They were meant to foster a positive environment in the family during this work-from-home period.
“We apologise if some of the tips shared were inappropriate and touched on the sensitivities of certain people and will be more careful in the future,” the department’s director-general said on its social media site.
Yesterday, two posters from the department earned widespread ridicule when it asked women to avoid nagging their spouses and speak to them like Japanese cartoon character, Doraemon. It also asked women to dress as though they were at work when working from home.
Women groups have labelled the tips as sexist.
