A JOBLESS man was arrested for walking into Sibujaya police station in Sibu, Sarawak with a meat cleaver.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said around 5pm yesterday, the 23-year-old man showed up with a meat cleaver in his hand, to the surprise of two police personnel manning the front desk.

He added that the man was believed to be under the influence of drugs.

“The personnel immediately asked him to throw the knife on the floor outside the station. The man was arrested and the knife was seized,” he added.

According to The Star, Stanley said the man did not resist arrest.

“Upon investigation, the suspect revealed that he was carrying the knife for self-defence, as he was worried that somebody would assault him,” said Stanley.

He added the man had an injury on his right hand, as he had earlier on smashed his own house window.

The case is being investigated under Section 7 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substance and Offences Weapon Act 1958.
