Man dies after car plunges into Miri River

A MAN drowned after the car he was driving is believed to have overshot the road and plunged into the Miri River.

The incident occurred at Kampung Pulau Melayu which is located along the river in Miri.

Fire and Rescue personnel who arrived at the scene and sought assistance from their diving unit which found the victim inside the car about 12.10am.

The car is believed to have gone off the road about 8.55pm.

Villagers who saw the car plunging into the river alerted the authorities.

The vehicle was also later pulled to the surface using a crane.

Police have identified the victim as Tan Khong Heng, 39, from Pujut 1.
