MALAYSIA recorded 6,320 new Covid-19 infections today, bringing the total to 505,115. There were also 50 deaths reported nationwide, including two from Sarawak.

The national death toll now stands at 2,199, according to statistics released by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Selangor continues to top the list with 1,647 new cases, followed by Sarawak at 749.

Nationwide, 652 Covid-19 patients were treated at intensive care units (ICU) nationwide, of whom 370 required ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham added in an earlier statement that ICU wards in the Klang Valley were operating at 113 per cent capacity, while 91 per cent of the beds in ICUs nationwide have been occupied.

He added that the increase in Covid-19 patients who were critically ill had reduced the chance of non-Covid-19 patients from getting the necessary critical care.

Meanwhile in Sarawak, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the 749 new infections reported, 149 were from Kuching. This is followed by Sibu (125), Miri (93), Mukah (79), Kanowit (49), Bintulu (48), Belaga (37), Sri Aman (24), Samarahan (21), Kapit (20), Selangau (16), Serian (11), Betong (11), Sebauh (10), Pakan (10),
and Subis (10).

The cumulative cases in Sarawak now stand at 41,620 while the two new deaths push the death toll to 249. Both deaths happened in Miri Hospital.
