THE Conference of Malay Rulers are in a meeting to discuss proposals from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is seeking to invoke emergency powers for the government.

Reports say that King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah arrived at Istana Negara about 12.20pm for a meeting with fellow Malay rulers on the issue.

The meeting comes after Muhyiddin proposed it during a meeting with Sultan Abdullah at the Istana Abdulaziz in Kuantan on Friday evening.

Malaysiakini reports that local and international media have gathered at the main entrance of Istana Negara and police have taken the necessary measures to provide tight security to ensure that the media observe the Covid-19 SOPs such as wearing face masks and maintaining physical distancing.

The police have set up barriers and traffic cones and are enforcing security control along the road leading to the main entrance of the palace.

The palace had earlier confirmed that the meeting would take place but no details were given.

“(The rulers) will discuss and refine the proposals presented by Muhyiddin,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin yesterday.
