THERE is a serious Covid-19 outbreak at a construction site in the northern Sarawak district of Subis, with 153 cases reported so far.
Sarawak health department said there are about 400 Indonesian and local workers at the site and all are being tested for the virus.
According to The Vibes, the sprawling site includes housing quarters for the workers involved in housing and road-building projects.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has classified the outbreak as the Tangap sub-cluster.
“The index case for the outbreak in this construction camp has been linked to the Pasai cluster in Sibu,” the department said.
Authorities have also set up roadblocks to prevent workers from leaving the camp.
Workers who tested positive and have serious symptoms are being transported via ambulances to Miri Hospital, which is already overloaded with 450 patients in its Covid-19 ward.
