MANY Kuchingites feel that the annual Kuching Festival organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) should be put on hold this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This follows MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng move to create an online poll on his Facebook page yesterday, asking the public whether the festival should be organised this year. The poll ends in eight days.

As of 12pm today, more than 3,100 people have responded with 96 per cent of them saying it should not be held.

Among the comments were a suggestion that the local council organise an online food festival instead and the food can be delivered to customers using food delivery services.

Another comment was that nothing should be done until a vaccine is found. The user also said that all should lead a humble lifestyle for now until the curve is flattened as one wrong decision may kill many lives.

Kuching Festival is one of Sarawak’s most anticipated and popular events, attracting thousands of locals and foreign tourists.
