A CHURCH gathering in Kuching and a wedding ceremony in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor are the two large Covid-19 clusters in the country.

The church gathering, held from Feb 26 to 28, was linked to 83 positive cases, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

There are also two deaths from this cluster, including the 60-year-old pastor who died on March 17, the second Covid-19 fatality in Malaysia.

Another 50 cases are currently being treated in hospitals while 25 are being monitored at quarantine centres.

Only one patient from the cluster has been discharged so far.

Meanwhile, a total of 88 confirmed cases were linked to a wedding ceremony in Selangor, which was organised on March 8.

No death reported from this cluster while one patient is currently being treated at the intensive care unit.

“Both clusters involved at least five generations of Covid-19 infections, invovling 171  confirmed cases,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

Dr Noor Hisham also urged people not to stigmatise patients who are infected from such clusters.

“What is important is that we trace and we treat the disease for them, their family members and close contacts,” he said.
