THE King has said that Parliament can sit during the current Emergency period as the declaration is only a proactive measure to curb Covid-19 spread.
In a statement today, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King believes the Parliament sessions can be held on a date suitable to him upon advice from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
This is mentioned in the Sub Paragraph 14(1)(b) of Emergency Ordinance (Necessary Powers) 2021, which says that parliament can be called, prorogated and dissolved on a date suitable to the King upon advice from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Hence, reactions from certain parties that the Emergency prohibits Parliament sessions is wrong, said the statement.
