Its back to business as usual for PN

THE Gabungan Parti Sarawak has reiterated its support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional federal government as the nation was enveloped with political dramas over the past 24 hours.

GPS whip and Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the coalition was confident that the PN government would be able to lead the nation and handle the Covid-19 pandemic well.

His comments come after PAS also issued a similar statement of support saying Muhyiddin had the support of all its 18 MPs.

Umno last night, decided to back Muhyiddin after a day of uncertainty following the King’s rejection of Muhyiddin’s call for an emergency.

The party also rejected any cooperation with PKR and DAP.

Meanwhile, PKR’s Subang MP Wong Chen said it looks like any reshuffling of the Cabinet was now unlikely after Umno said it will back the PN government last night.

He said there was a window of opportunity for political reconfiguration after the King rejected Muhyiddin’s request but it was closed when Umno pledged its support to the PN government.

“I don’t think Muhyiddin will be resigning, sacking any ministers (unless demanded by Umno) or calling the opposition anytime soon to discuss the Budget,” he said in a Facebook posting today.

There have been calls from several quarters for Muhyiddin to sack Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin from his Cabinet.

Wong also doubted there would be any negotiations over reforms or equal parliamentary resources for the opposition.

“So it’s probably back to business as usual,” he added.
