IT looks like there is bad news about Miss Universe 2021.

Israel has just been announced as the international beauty pageant’s host country, and it will take place in the Israeli city of Eilat in December.

Netizens have been taken by surprise by the announcement made on the Miss Universe Instagram account yesterday, and many of them believe that it will effectively mean a “walkout” for Malaysia and all countries that do not have diplomatic ties with Israel.

A Netizen identified as Diana said: “Oh, no! I hope they can change the venue as many participating countries do not have diplomatic ties with Israel. It will be very sad if our Miss Malaysia cannot attend the pageant, especially if she’s got a great chance of winning.”

Another Netizen Afifah said: “Bad, bad news! We’re a major supporter of Palestine, we don’t have ties with Israel, and worst of all, our beauty’s safety might be at risk too. It’s a no go for Malaysia, how sad!”

“Sad but true! We ain’t going to be welcome in Israel. Looks like Miss Malaysia will have to give Miss Universe a miss this year,” said Faiz.

Meanwhile, the hashtag #BoycottMissUniverse has started making its rounds on social media.

Many Netizens in the Middle East as well as the United States and neighbouring Indonesia have agreed with the boycott, in solidarity with the suffering Palestinian people.

Last year’s pageant was held on May 16 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida, the United States.
