THE stage is all set for Sarawak’s Francisca Luhong James as she competes in the final stage of the Miss Universe 2020 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Florida.
The event is set to take place tomorrow (May 17) at 8am, Malaysian time.
According to reports, Francisca has since the preliminary round, proven to the world that Malaysia is capable of producing charming, intelligent, capable competitors.
The earlier rounds involved the Swimsuit Competition and the Evening Gown Competition.
In the Evening Gown Competition, Francisca wore a luxurious evening gown designed by Rizman Ruzaini who drew inspiration from the Sarawakian folklore of Princess Sejinjang.
Earlier, she wore the ‘Kampungku’ national costume designed by renowned homegrown designer Carven Ong. “Kampungku” is a celebration of traditional Malaysian architecture and the sense of nostalgia it evokes.
She also appeared in a black and white kaftan ensemble with a bicycle headgear against a matching kampung backdrop – the non-colour concept is meant to represent the sweet, innocent memory of one’s youth, reminiscent of a Lat comic book.
The 25-year-old is the first Dayak woman to ever win the title and comes from a culturally diverse indigenous family thanks to her Orang Ulu Kayan-Kenyah and Iban parentage.
“I have done my absolute best and I’m so overwhelmed with all the love and support I have received from my community, the people from my country and everyone around the world that are so positive. I hope I make you proud, moving forward, I’ll do my absolute best tomorrow for the nation. Be Authentic You, FLJ,” she wrote on her Instagram.
The final stage of Miss Universe will take place on Monday, 17 May 2021 at 8am Malaysian time.
