Houses below RM120,000 and 1% interest for Sarawak B40 group

SARAWAKIANS from the B40 group can now purchase houses in state government housing developments projects for RM120,000 or less.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg said they will also be able to get financing at a low interest rate of only 1% through Mutiara Mortgage & Credit.

He said they could even buy the houses without a deposit by taking up a loan from Mutiara, which is owned by the GPS state government.

“The state government is taking this approach to help the B40 group to be able to own houses legitimately,” said Abang Johari last night.

According to a Borneo Post report, he said this was part of the long term plans for structured development in urban areas, and to ensure that those in the B40 group would not be displaced.

He said there have been several cases where people in the B40 group were conned into buying land plots in urban areas, only to discover it belonged to someone else, or was state land.

“Because of that we have squatters in the urban areas. That is why the state government is now implementing village expansions and opening up new housing areas complete with infrastructures, lots, roads, utilities, drainage and build houses for the B40 group.

“We build the houses because in many cases when they are just given lots, they may not be able to build houses on it. And in the end they might sell off their lots,” said Abang Johari.
