Hitz FM Sarawak DJ in controversial TikTok video resigns

THE suspended Hitz FM Sarawak announcer DJ Yusuf has resigned after making fun of a science teacher’s English.

Muhammad Yusuf Shukri or DJ Yusuf had last week posted a controversial TikTok video, mocking the Science teacher for her purported poor pronunciation and demeanour.

The video has since been deleted.

Hitz FM announced yesterday that DJ Yusuf has resigned.

“Hitz remains committed to keeping Malaysians informed and entertained. Following an internal inquiry into the recent controversy involving one of our announcers, we have accepted his resignation effective 22nd February 2021,” the station said.

DJ Yusuf has also posted an apology video on Instagram.

“It was not funny at all… It was very demeaning, disrespectful and distasteful of me to do such a video and for that I want to sincerely apologise to her,” he said.

The teacher had appeared on DidikTV, a free-to-air television station launched by PM Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin last week.

The programmes broadcasted by the station was meant to help students catch up with their studies following the closure of schools due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was earlier reported that many students in Sarawak and Sabah, especially in the rural areas, could not attend online classes due to lack of digital devices like mobile phones or tablets and poor Internet connectivity.
