HIGHER education minister Noraini Ahmad has resigned, citing her adherence to Umno’s decision to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional government.
The Wanita Umno chief’s resignation comes on the heels of a press conference by deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who claimed that 31 Barisan Nasional MPs were still backing the PN government.
Noraini’s resignation follows that of Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who resigned as the energy and natural resources minister on Tuesday, also citing his loyalty to the party.
In a statement today, Noraini thanked Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for giving her the chance to helm the ministry, but said she had to resign to abide by her party’s stand.
