HEALTH Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba has come under fire for suggesting that drinking warm water could help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The medical doctor-turned-politician had said this in a RTM talk show two days ago. A moist throat could help wash the virus down the oesophagus, which could then be killed by stomach acid, he said
United Kingdom-based Malaysian doctor, Dr Nur Amalina Che Bakri has debunked the claim.
“Not recommended by doctors and it is not evidence-based. Thank you,” she posted on her Twitter @DrAmalinaBakri.
Another Twitter user, @ramzdhanmasdar, said the Health Minister’s suggestion had been refuted by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“u need to make comment base on real scientific finding.. u are A HEALTH MINISTER, not some pakcik walking on the road… U let us doctors take an extra work to explain to patient now.. Do a fact check first b4 commenting plz.”
Others shared screenshots from Snopes.com, a popular fact-checking website which has debunked the notion that taking regular sips of warm water could prevent the coronavirus from entering one’s windpipes and lungs.
