Health Min says people should stop speculation on strained relationship with Health DG

HEALTH Minister Dr Adham Baba said rumours of a strained relationship with Health director general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah should stop as it may affect the nation’s Covid-19 battle.

He said people should refrain from making negative assumptions, saying the nation needs to have a united front in facing the Covid-19 pandemic and not have any distractions.

In an exclusive interview with Berita Harian, Dr Adham said any disruption or bickering will cause the nation to be in in a disadvantageous situation.

“To launch a war against Covid-19, we cannot fight with each other. There must be a delegation of work and most importantly is to see policies being introduced.

“I received cooperation throughout the ministry but under me, there is also a director-general and a chief secretary who play a key role,’’ he said.

Dr Adham said that other than him, Dr Noor Hisham was responsible for disseminating the right information.

As such, he said Dr Noor Hisham works closely with the media to manage the communication aspect as well as being the main spokesperson.

“I have asked the director-general to provide the latest data as a means to manage any trepidation caused by inaccurate information. The director-general also ensures that I conduct my responsibilities in an accurate manner in implementing the strategy.”

“As the commander, I am the backbone of the ministry. Because of that, when the time comes, I will face the people when I answer in parliament. The director-general will not answer in Parliament, it is up to the minister and the deputy minister,” he said.
