Half of Sarawak’s new Covid-19 cases are in Kuching

THERE were no new Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak today despite the state recording 2,285 new cases over the past 24 hours.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the number of active clusters remains at 131 as no clusters were declared to have ended today.

It said six more areas in Sarawak have been placed under a two-week Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

SDMC said the places are Rh Renga anak Layang at Sungai Senggam, Jalan Sebungan Sebauh and Rh Ugop anak Umpin at Nanga Sigu, Pandan.

Others are Rh Sating anak Bundan at KM67, Jalan Bintulu/Miri in Bintulu, Rh Manai at San Panjai in Lubok Antu and Rh Manggi at Kampung Menuang Baru in Limbang.

Pekan Sebangan, Kampung Lutong and Kampung Menek at Sebuyau in Simunjan will be under EMCO from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, almost half of the new cases were in Kuching with 1,129 cases followed by Bau (228) and Serian (113).

Lundu had 93 cases, Samarahan (81), Bintulu (76), Sibu (71), Mukah (61), Simunjan (60), Subis (59), Miri (54), Limbang (41), Song (34), Tebedu (32), Pusa (21), Tatau (20), Betong (16), Sri Aman (15), Kapit (13), Asajaya (10), and Lubok Antu (10).

Bukit Mabong had eight cases, Sarikei (7), Belaga (7), Selangau (7), Beluru (5), Kanowit (4), Dalat (3), Matu (2), and one each in Meradong, Lawas, Julau, Pakan, and Sebauh.

Sarawak’s total number of infections is now 116,558.

SDMC said there were two deaths today, bringing the death toll to 526.

Of the 2,285 new cases, two are category 3 cases; four from category 4 and four from category 5. The rest are in Category 1 and 2.
